Note: This was the Weasels first game back at the low novice level, after playing three seasons of low intermediate softball. It showed. The opposing team had trouble throwing strikes, made numerous fielding and throwing errors, and did not hit particularly well. Definitely a stark contrast from the opposition over the past three seasons. It seems the Weasels belong somewhere between low novice and low intermediate. The Weasels were able to contain the opponents' offense, apart from a mini-rally late in the game. Among the defensive highlights of the game were numerous catches and throws by Craig in LF. He got the lion's share of the work in the outfield. Pete pitched a fine game, and Cory played the all-out shortstop that we've come to expect. On offense, the Weasels did their best work. Cory belted two in-the-park homeruns, Matt got just one, while Brandy and Craig limited their work to a triple each. Rob contributed to the offense in the short time he was in the game. He led off the game with a single (in his first and so-far only at-bat as an Ice Weasel), moved to second on a hit by Susanna, and scored on a hit by Cory. Weasel base-runners challenged the opponents by going for extra bases and drawing throws. Also worth mentioning is how well everyone performed defensively in the first inning, before Pete and Craig had arrived from their previous game. Tammy played solid shortstop, and Cory pitched well despite not having pitched in a game for a long time. Thanks a lot to Pete, Craig, and Rob for playing, and thanks also to Rob for keeping score after he left the game. Let's hope the Weasels can keep up their winning ways.

* - Pete and Craig were playing in a game on Havins 1 which was supposed to end just as our game began. It ran late, so neither of them were available for the beginning of our game. As a result, the Weasels fielded 9 players to begin the game, not 10. Rob started the game at 2B, Crystal started at 3B, Cory started at P, Tammy started at SS, Matt started at CF, and Susanna started in LF. Pete and Craig arrived in the bottom of the 1st inning, around the time Matt was coming up to bat. As a consequence, the Weasels did not have to take an automatic out for Craig's position in the batting order. When they arrived, Rob left the game, Pete played P, Cory played SS, Tammy played 3B, Crystal played 2B, Matt played RCF, Susanna played LCF, and Craig played LF. The rest of the game was played out in that configuration.
