Where: Krieg Field #5
Opponents: NYLife Keepers
We were the home team (meaning we batted second).
Final score: 17-2
Note: Defensive mistakes, mental errors, and a lack of offense resulted in the
worst defeat of the Ice Weasels in recent memory. The opposing team was good, but not so good that
they should have beaten the Weasels so badly. Also, there were a few questionable calls made by
the umpires, but they were not the difference in the game. Despite the generally lackluster play, there
were a few highlights. Nathan played third base like it was his one-man mission to win the game for us,
exemplified by a great attempt to catch a foul ball near the visiting team's dugout.
He dove headlong for the ball, sending the third base coach running for cover. He nearly made the catch,
and probably would have made it had the third base coach not been in the way in the first place. Carrie
demonstrated the importance of running out every hit, when she turned a groundout into a hit with a
combination of her hustle and the first baseman's fumbling of the ball. Unfortunately, the
mistakes made by the Weasels far outweighed the good plays. The Weasels need to put this defeat in the
past, go to practice on Sunday, and focus on the next game.

* - When the game started, we only had 9 people present. Brandy, Julie, and Nathan had not arrived. Stephanie, a girl who was at the field, agreed to play for us. She replaced Brandy in the lineup, and played 3B. Mitch was supposed to DH, but he took Nathan's place in RCF. Both Nathan and Julie arrived during the top of the first inning. The umpires allowed us to switch to a 12 person lineup, despite the game having already started. At that point, Stephanie moved to LCF, Susanna moved to RCF, Mitch moved to DH, and Nathan moved to 3B. Julie entered the game at DH. The rest of the game was played out in that configuration.
